Tamil film industry representatives on Friday began an eight-hour-long fast at Chepauk here condemning the attacks on cinemas screening Tamil films by pro-Kannada groups protesting Tamil Nadu’s decision to go ahead with the Hogenakkal water project. The fast was presided over by Tamil Film Producers Council president Rama Narayanan and the president of South India Film Chamber of Commerce KRG. Prominent film personalities including Rajnikant, Kamalhassan also took part in the hunger fast. Wearing badges to show their opposition to the project and pride in Tamil culture, scores of personalities including actors Vijay Kumar , Radha Ravi Nasser, Prabhu, Vijay, Vadivelu, Sathyaraj, Sibiraj, Murali, Srikanth, Pandiarajan, Prashanth, Naren, Bharath, Arun, Arjun, Parthiban, S Ve Shekher, Ramarajan, Goundamani, Anandhraj, Prakashraj, Dhanush, Arun Kumar,, Mansoorali Khan Manorama, Sneha, Trisha, Nayanthara, Vineetha, Namitha, Poornima Bhakiyaraj, Saranya, Sri Priya, Latha, directors K Bhakiyaraj, S P Muthuraman, Seeman, Saravana Subiah, T Rajendher, V C Guganathan, Susi Ganesan, Mysskin, producers A VM Saravanan, R B Choudhary, Kalaipuli S Thanu, A M Rathinam, Sivasakthi Pandian, A L Azhagappan, music directors Deva, Shankar Ganesh and stunt directors and members of various affiliate associations of the film industry took part in the fast, called by Tamil Film Chamber of Commerce. Speakers at the fast condemned the attack on cinemas screening Tamil films in Bangalore and said the film industry was the first victim during such issues. The fast concluded with drinking of fresh fruit juice.
